Real expertise. Real results. No invoice.

The Specialist Business Support Programme is a funded initiative from East Sussex County Council, delivered by the Digital Islands network of expert advisors.

Whether you want to win more clients, sharpen your marketing, adopt new technology, or build a stronger online presence, we will match you with a specialist who has done it before and knows how to help you do it too.

You will receive a structured programme of support: starting with a diagnostic session to understand your business and its priorities, followed by hands-on specialist guidance tailored specifically to you.

Every business accepted onto the programme receives up to 16 hours of dedicated, one-to-one specialist support, structured around your business goals, not a generic template.

What businesses say
"Working with a specialist through the programme gave us a clear direction we had been missing. Within three months of our support sessions ending, we had increased enquiries by 40%."

Common questions

What businesses ask us most

Is the support really free?
Yes, completely. The programme is funded by East Sussex County Council and delivered at no cost to participating businesses. There is no fee to apply, no fee to take part, and no expectation of any commercial relationship with the programme or any of our advisors after the programme ends.
How is my specialist chosen?
After your diagnostic assessment, your lead advisor identifies the specialist whose expertise most closely matches your priorities. They make a formal introduction and you will connect directly to arrange your first session. The matching process is personal and deliberate, not automated.
How long does the programme last?
Most businesses complete the programme over around three months. This includes the initial discovery and diagnostic phase, up to 16 hours of specialist support, a midpoint review, and a final wrap-up session. The pace is flexible and designed to fit around your existing commitments.
What if I am not sure which area of support I need?
That is exactly what the diagnostic assessment is for. Your lead advisor will work through six key business areas with you to pinpoint where specialist input will make the most difference. You do not need to come in knowing the answer, that is something we work out together.
Can I apply if I am a sole trader or freelancer?
Yes. The programme is open to all East Sussex-based SMEs, including sole traders, freelancers, partnerships and limited companies, provided you are actively trading and have a genuine ambition to grow your business.
What commitment is required from me?
We ask that accepted businesses engage seriously with the programme, attending scheduled sessions, completing any agreed actions between sessions, and maintaining honest, open communication with your advisor. The more you put in, the more you will get out.
How many businesses will be accepted?
Places on the programme are limited. Priority will be given to businesses where we believe specialist support will have a meaningful and demonstrable impact. If demand exceeds capacity, we will maintain a waiting list and contact eligible businesses as spaces become available.
